Fishing for Native Brook Trout
If there is one type of fishing that is popular with most anglers, it is trout fishing. Unlike most seasons of fishing, the opening day of trout season is one that is highly anticipated. Anglers line the shorelines and go out in their boats and wait for the signal that it is time to fish. There are several species of trout, and one species seems to have developed somewhat of a following among fishermen, this is the brook trout.
However, it is not any brook trout that fishermen want to catch, it is the native brook trout. The difference is not in the fish. Biologically, it is the same exact fish. The difference lies in how the fish was introduced to its waterway. Most trout are raised at a fish hatchery. This hatchery then takes the fish and stocks select lakes, rivers, ponds, and streams with them before the first day of trout. These are stocked fish. Native brook trout were born and raised naturally in the stream they reside in. This makes them much more wary than stocked fish and thus more of a challenge to catch.
Fishermen fish for native brook trout by venturing up into the woods where secluded streams are located. These fish are so elusive, that fishermen will even wear camouflage and make a point to approach a stream only from a certain side. They will then follow the stream until they locate a pool. They will then cast a plain hook with a small worm on it into the pool and wait to see if a fish strikes. If there is no fish, they will continue this process until they find one.
