River Fishing Tips – 3 Highly Effective Tips To Use When Trout Fishing In A River
For me trout fishing means river fishing. Catching trout from the flowing water of a river is the best way to catch trout in my humble opinion and it’s something that I have been engaging in for more than two decades. In that time I have learned and been introduced to some great river fishing tips that have not only saved me time and helped me catch more trout, but have also made me a better “all around” angler. In this article I will share 3 river fishing tips that I have found to be highly effective over my fishing ‘career’ (if you call standing in a river catching trout a career).
The other thing that I would like to point out is that for me “river fishing” has always meant wading in the river that I am fishing. Wading and river fishing go together for me just like trout fishing and rivers fishing do. So, some of the following river fishing tips are specifically for the wading fisherman, while they could easily be modified for river fishing from the bank or a boat as you see fit. With that being said, let’s get down to business, shall we?
Live Bait Is A Great Trout Bait Choice – Live bait is an excellent bait choice when wading a river in search of trout. A key is to rig your live bait in the most effective manner possible, such as using a set of gang hooks when using live worms as bait. Whatever variety of live bait that you choose to employ, just make sure that that bait is rigged in the most natural manner possible, and allowed to flow naturally with the current of the river that you are fishing.
Have An Effective Bait Carrier – When you are wading having an effective way to carry and access your bait is of the utmost importance. For example, if you are trout fishing with live worms a bait bag is the best way to carry those live worms while you are fishing. This way your worms are always within easy reach and you can concentrate on wading and/or fishing without falling in the river. The bottom line is that whatever type of bait you choose to use, have an effective bait carrier to carry that bait.
Be On The River At The Best Times – Did you know that trout are more or less active depending on what the weather and moon are doing? By paying attention to the phase of the moon and what the weather has been and is doing, you can make sure that you are on the river when the trout are the most active. And as you can probably imagine, when the trout are active they tend to feed more and the trout fishing tends to be much better.
Add one or all of the aforementioned river fishing tips to your fishing arsenal sooner, rather than later. The sooner you do the more trout you will start to catch, it’s as simple as that.
